Why are there so many Baptists in the Southern United States?

Whereas most people in western and northern Europe tend to be Catholic, I believe, hence the term “Southern Baptist. Why are so common in Southern Baptists?

    Because if they lived anywhere else, they couldn’t be called Southern Baptists.

    Because the Puritans settled in New England and anybody that didn’t conform to their ways of living, including spiritual belief, was pretty much thrown out.
    Other groups lived more southernly.

    In northern Louisiana people are mostly Baptists, in southern LA most people are Catholics.

    Ya know, I am right smack dab in the south o’ Georgia, and I’ll be darned if there ain’t but just one Baptist church in the whole o’ this here county. We got us a Pentecostal, a Methodist, an Episcopalian, and a Catholic church, but all y’all yankees and westerners care about is them there Bapstists….

    It is the most prominent religion in the south.
    People seem to have a tendency in organized religion to follow what their families raised them in .
    Most religion tells you …their church is the right one.Fear keeps people in that religion.They stress NOT TO QUESTION.

    they are nmore common in the south because the baptism ceremonies are probably done by being baptised in water and its the only gauranteed time they will have a chance to cool off and quench their thirsts from the heat in the south .

    It’s warmer down here and the weather is nicer and they liked the Southern Accent or they thought that most people living down here were uneducated, other than that I don’t know and I don’t care because i am not a Southern Baptist.
